Ukrainian Magura Sank a Ship Target During the US-Philippine Balikatan 2026 Exercises

A Ukrainian surface drone from the Magura family sank a ship target during the US-Philippine Balikatan 2026 exercises.

It is specifically noted that UFORCE has not granted any third party in any country licenses or permits to manufacture Magura-class platforms and remains their sole manufacturer.

The target ship was struck and sunk off the western coast of the Philippine municipality of Itbayat. Green Berets from the 1st Special Operations Group of the US Special Operations Command launched the drone.

This event, dubbed Maritime Strike-North, was part of joint live-fire training exercises conducted by US and Philippine special forces in the Batanes archipelago—a chain of islands in the Luzon Strait, approximately 160 kilometers south of Taiwan.

Judging by the published photos, a model similar to the V7 was used during the exercises.

Oleg Rogynskyi, CEO of UFORCE, noted that deploying such systems in the Indo-Pacific region represents the transfer of combat experience from one theater of operations to another.

“We took the lessons learned in Ukraine and refined them, taking into account Western requirements, expert knowledge, and a deep understanding of operational needs across all four major global theaters of war,” Rogynskyi stated.

He also added that the company is currently expanding production worldwide, particularly in the US and Asia, primarily to meet Ukrainian needs.

Back in March, a multinational naval group led by the Ukrainian Navy, during the NATO REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 2025 exercises, used Magura V7 maritime drones to “sink” at least one Alliance frigate.

The maritime drone, developed by UFORCE, is twice the size of the previous Magura V5 model and, thanks to its expanded payload capacity, has earned the status of a multi-purpose platform.

The new 7.2-meter-long hull, made of fiberglass, has a total weight of about 3,400 kg—that’s two tons more than the previous version.

The increase in size has also affected its dynamic characteristics. Its cruising speed is 23 knots, and its maximum speed is at least 39 knots. At the same time, its seaworthiness has improved: the drone is capable of operating effectively in sea states up to 3, whereas the Magura V5 was limited to a level of 2.

One of the key areas of modernization was autonomy. The platform can perform tasks for at least 48 hours, and up to 7 days when using a generator.

Thanks to fuel tanks increased to 1,200 liters and a 270-horsepower diesel engine, the range has increased from 450 to 800 nautical miles (approximately 1,500 kilometers).

The Magura V7 can carry up to 650 kg of payload. This allows for combined equipment—a combat unit and additional systems, such as a machine gun turret or a twin launcher for two anti-aircraft missiles.
