The Ukrainian Defense Forces have attacked the sea port in occupied Mariupol of the Donetsk region.

Video and photos were published by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.

The footage shows thick black smoke rising above the port.

The Mariupol commercial seaport is the largest port on the Sea of Azov with the deepest waters.

The port is directly connected to the railway network and roadways leading to southern and eastern Ukraine, as well as toward Rostov-on-Don.

The Russian army can use it to supply fuel and ammunition to the south, as this significantly relieves pressure on the Crimean Bridge and overland railway routes.

The port has the technical capacity to receive small tankers from Russian ports in the Azov Basin (e.g., Yeysk, Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don).
