Ukrainian defense startup Swarmer has raised $15 million to advance artificial intelligence for drone swarm systems.

The investment came from several U.S.-based funds, including Broadband Capital Investments, R-G.AI, D3 Ventures, Green Flag Ventures, Radius Capital, and Network VC.

Ukraine’s innovations in unmanned systems are playing a significant role in shaping modern warfare and are increasingly drawing interest from international investors.

Swarmer specializes in AI-powered solutions that aim to increase drone autonomy and organize them into coordinated swarms. The funds raised will be used to accelerate development and scale the company’s products.

The U.S. investors have confirmed their commitment to supporting technologies that provide a tactical edge on the battlefield. Key priorities include enhancing coordination algorithms, improving communication resilience, and facilitating real-time data processing.

Swarmer’s technology is already being tested in the field and has received positive feedback from operators. Its swarming capabilities boost mission effectiveness while requiring fewer human operators.

The new investment will enable the company to introduce swarming functionality to a broad range of unmanned systems, from lightweight tactical drones to ground-based robots with varying ranges, significantly expanding their operational capabilities.

The company previously announced a technology that connects dozens of drones into a single network controlled by one operator; work in this area is now accelerating. The focus is on secure data exchange and autonomous decision-making in the field.

In Ukraine, AI development for unmanned systems is advancing along several key lines: optical target recognition and tracking, navigation algorithms, and swarm control systems. These areas complement each other in integrated solutions.

Swarmer is part of a group of startups building infrastructure for autonomous collaboration between machines. One of the company’s flagship developments is Styx – a system designed to coordinate drones within autonomous networks.

Styx is designed to manage both reconnaissance and strike drones. Within the network, the operator receives a mission, selects a target, and authorizes engagement – after that, all actions are carried out autonomously, in accordance with the rules of engagement programmed into the system.

The investment will help strengthen research teams, expand testing infrastructure, and grow international partnerships – all of which will support the broader adoption of Swarmer’s technologies by allied militaries and the private sector.
