Ukraine to Expand Drone Production to 2,000 Per Month for Strikes on Russia

Ukraine plans to quadruple production of long-range kamikaze drones, bringing their output to several thousand per month.

Ukraine intends to quadruple the production of long-range kamikaze drones, increasing their monthly output to several thousand. 

Brigadier General Yuriy Shchyhol told Sky News that currently, Ukraine produces several hundred such drones per month, but this figure is expected to exceed 2,000 in the near future.

A large-scale boost in drone production will enable more frequent strikes on Russian military and logistical targets, a key factor in undermining Russia’s combat capabilities. 

Shchyhol stressed that Ukrainian drones have already proven their effectiveness, hitting ammunition depots, oil refineries, and military bases deep inside Russia.

“Our strikes not only weaken the enemy’s military infrastructure but also force it to spend massive resources on defense. This shifts the balance of power on the battlefield,” he said. Attacks on Russian oil refineries, in particular, have complicated fuel supplies for the Russian military. The Kremlin is now searching for alternative supply routes, which requires additional time and resources, Shchyhol added.

Drone strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities

Ukrainian suicide drones carry out attacks on Russian oil and gas facilities almost daily. On the night of March 4, an oil refinery in Syzran, in the Samara region, was attacked.

Eyewitnesses reported multiple explosions and bright flashes. The same refinery was previously targeted on February 19, alongside the Novoshakhtinsky refinery in the Rostov oblast.

The Novoshakhtinsky plant has now been attacked at least five times during the full-scale war, and according to Reuters, it was operating at reduced capacity as of mid-November. 

On March 3, Ukrainian drones also hit an oil refinery in Ufa, located about 1,400 km from Ukraine.
