The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Savasleika military airfield in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, where MiG-31Ks—carriers of Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles—are stationed.
A video of the fire at the airfield was published by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
The attack on the airfield took place on the morning of August 15. In local chat rooms, residents reported explosions and began asking where exactly the explosion had occurred.
The Savasleika airfield is a Russian military airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region, located approximately 12 km northwest of the city of Kulebaki. The base houses a branch of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s 4th Centre for Combat Employment and Retraining of Personnel of the Aerospace Forces. The site is located approximately 650–700 km from the Ukrainian border, at coordinates 55.44199965223542, 42.30844483849896.
The airfield is home to various modifications of the MiG-31 fighter jet, including the MiG-31K, which carries the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles.
This is not the first time the airfield has been targeted. In particular, on August 14, 2024, drones attacked Savasleika. At that time, local sources reported numerous explosions on the airbase grounds.
It later emerged that the strike targeted warehouses and fueling stations on the airfield grounds, around which traces of explosions were observed.
