Ukrainian Air Force Received Airfield Maintenance Equipment From Sweden

The Ukrainian Air Force has received specialized airfield maintenance equipment from Sweden.

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced the transfer of this aid.

The use of this new equipment will allow airfields to remain operational 24/7 under any weather conditions, which is critical for combat readiness.

The equipment is specifically designed to maintain runways in proper condition to ensure uninterrupted aircraft takeoffs.

“High-quality runway maintenance directly affects how safely and successfully pilots will carry out combat missions,” the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine emphasized.

Sweden transferred this specialized equipment to the Ukrainian military as part of its military aid. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the country is one of the five largest donors of aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in terms of the amount of funds allocated.

Cooperation with Sweden

In early May, Saab CEO Mikael Johansson stated that he expects an agreement to be signed for the supply of JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine within a few months.

According to him, negotiations are at an advanced stage. The company is actively working with governments and partners to finalize the agreements.

At the same time, Ukraine expects its pilots to begin training on Swedish Gripen fighter jets as early as 2026.

In February, the joint-stock company Ukrainian Defense Industry (Ukroboronprom) and the Swedish company Saab signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

The document formalizes agreements on joint cooperation in the field of aviation and radar surveillance.

In addition, the Swedish company Saab is considering the possibility of opening a plant in Ukraine for the final assembly and testing of JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets.
