UK announces the largest aid package for Ukraine: air defense, missiles, armored vehicles, and boats

The UK government announces the largest military aid package for Ukraine, worth £500 million.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to announce the aid package during his visit to Poland.

The £500 million allocated by the government will be used to rapidly deliver to Ukraine urgently needed ammunition, air defense, armored vehicles, and drones to be purchased in the UK.

The military aid package will include, among other things, the following:

• 60 boats, including offshore raiding craft, rigid raiding craft, and dive boats, as well as maritime guns;
• More than 1,600 strike and air defense missiles, as well as additional Storm Shadow long-range precision-guided missiles;
• More than 400 vehicles, including 160 protected mobility ‘Husky’ vehicles, 162 armored vehicles and 78 all-terrain vehicles;
• Nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.

In his first in-person meeting with new Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister will also seek to deepen UK-Poland ties across a range of issues.

The threat from Russia and Britain’s efforts to support European security and Ukraine will also be discussed.

Earlier in April, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps stated that the UK plans to transfer the first samples of the DragonFire laser directed-energy weapon to Ukraine.

BAE Systems signed an agreement with the UK government to maintain and repair L119 howitzers in Ukraine.

The agreement will allow the repaired equipment to be transferred directly to the battlefield as soon as possible.

In addition, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a new framework agreement on defense industry cooperation, which will allow for cooperation between defense companies in both countries.

In April, the British government donated modern equipment, namely laptops, scanners, and printers, for the work with the Oberih registry.
