Two men in the UK have been charged over an alleged plot to attack RAF Fairford, which was used by the US military, with one accused of assisting Iranian intelligence.
Sky News reports this, citing the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The defendants are 24-year-old London residents Mohmed Abdulkarim and Nouman Essghir. Abdulkarim is accused of assisting an Iranian intelligence service, while Essghir is charged with entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK.
Both men face charges under the National Security Act 2023. Their first court hearing is scheduled for October 27 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London.
Nouman Essghir was among those detained on September 27 near the military airfield in Gloucestershire. Police stopped three suspicious vans that day and found petrol inside, but no explosive devices were discovered.
Militarnyi previously reported the arrest of a seventh suspect in connection with the investigation. British Counter Terrorism Policing said they considered Iranian involvement in the incident highly likely, but the exact circumstances and the suspects’ motives are still being established.
Amid security threats, the US withdrew its strategic bombers from Fairford in early October. President Donald Trump attributed the decision to the threats, while British authorities assured the public that the airbase remained secure.
