A large ammunition depot belonging to the Syrian army exploded near the Idlib – Maarat Misrin highway in the Governorate of Idlib.

The Syrian Civil Defense’s X-account reported the incident.

Preliminary figures from the Idlib Health Directorate indicate that over 145 civilians have been affected, with casualties including both fatalities and injuries.

Aerial footage from the site captured a series of consecutive detonations, causing significant damage to residential buildings and industrial facilities.

The explosion occurred during the day on July 24. The cause has not yet been determined. A similar incident took place in the Homs Governorate the day before, on July 23.

The explosions may have been caused by careless handling of ammunition.

However, the possibility of sabotage by armed groups hostile to the new Syrian government or actions by Israeli forces cannot be ruled out.

Supporting these theories is the fact that local residents did not report any activity of aircraft, missile launches, or drone presence in the area.

These explosions come amid escalating tensions between the Syrian government and allied armed groups in the As-Suwayda Governorate.

To stabilize the situation, additional forces of the new Syrian government were deployed to the region. However, as a result of attacks on government convoys, 18 servicemen were killed and nine were taken captive.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Tel Aviv would not allow harm to come to the Druze community and would not remain indifferent. In response, the Israeli Air Force carried out at least five airstrikes on the outskirts of As-Suwayda, where Syrian army units are stationed.

Since the start of the civil war in Syria, the Israeli government has repeatedly opposed the integration of the Druze community into a centralized Syrian state, promising political and military support to the Druze minority in its conflict with the Damascus regime.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have warned of the possibility of “escalating attacks” on Syrian territory if threats to the Druze community arise.
