U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with NATO to deliver American weapons to Ukraine through the alliance.

He revealed this during an interview on NBC, as reported by CNN.

According to Trump, NATO will fully cover the costs of the weapons provided.

“We’re sending weapons to NATO, and NATO is paying for those weapons, a hundred percent. We’re going to be sending Patriots to NATO, and then NATO will distribute that,” he said.

CNN noted that they had reached out to the North Atlantic Alliance for comment on the matter.

Trump also announced that he would make an “important statement” regarding Russia next Monday but had not provided further details.

Media previously reported that the U.S. President, for the first time since returning to office, would send weapons to Ukraine using his authority to draw down U.S. stockpiles.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated earlier on Thursday that the United States was “actively” negotiating with European countries regarding the joint use of Patriot systems with Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Germany was ready to finance two such air defense systems, while Norway would cover the cost of an additional one.
