Based on GPS technology, these guidance kits convert unguided bombs into all-weather precision-guided munitions.

Aerial munitions with such equipment can target the positions of the Russian invasion forces with a high degree of accuracy.

The kit includes an inertial navigation system and GPS guidance for increased accuracy, as well as small wings that attach to the middle of the bomb. The tail unit has controllable fins that allow the bomb to adjust its course as it flies to the target. The block houses navigation and other equipment.

The U.S. military has been using the technology for aerial munitions weighing up to 907 kg, usually incorporating it with bomber aircraft and fighter jets.

The Washington Post emphasized that it was not immediately clear whether U.S. President Biden or any of his top national security advisers have approved the proposed JDAMs’ transfer to Ukraine.

The American newspaper noted that the delivery of JDAMs would mark another significant step by the United States to help Ukraine repel the invading Russian invasion forces, providing a new way to target Russian units and headquarters.

The Biden administration has previously equipped Ukraine with air-launched high-speed, antiradiation missiles, or HARMs, to enhance Ukraine’s ability to strike Russian air defenses and radars.

As previously reported, the U.S. presidential administration is preparing a plan to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.

According to two U.S. officials and a high-ranking official in the presidential administration, this could be announced as early as this week.

The Pentagon plan would still need to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature.
