The Netherlands will supply Ukraine with ammunition for Leopard 2

Future Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks will receive ammunition from the Netherlands.

Kajsa Ollongren, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, reported this to De Telegraaf.

The Netherlands is the only country within the tank coalition that does not have its own Leopard 2 tanks.

“We offered training assistance in addition to ammunition and spare parts. Together we can provide what Ukraine needs,” Ollongren said.

The Dutch government almost never makes a statement about the amount of aid provided to the Ukrainian military.

During a press conference at NATO headquarters, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that the Netherlands’ contribution consists of 20,000 munitions.

Pistorius also announced that the Netherlands did not make an official request to transfer 18 tanks rented from Germany to Ukraine and emphasized that the tanks belong to the Bundeswehr.

Ollongren said that there are no differences of opinion, and it cannot be ruled out that the rented tanks will eventually be transferred to Ukraine.

“I don’t rule anything out, but there are no plans for them at this time,” she said.

However, the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands noted on February 15 that they are not going to buy back the Leopard 2 tanks rented from Germany for Ukraine.

“The Netherlands has not purchased tanks from Germany. We are considering other options to support the coalition of countries delivering Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine,” the Dutch Ministry of Defense said.

As previously reported, Dutch politicians addressed the country’s Prime Minister with a proposition to create an international coalition for the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine.
