The Air Command “South” has received the S-300 SAM system

The Ukrainian military has received an S-300 missile system from the partner countries.

This has significantly strengthened Ukrainian air defenses in the south of the country.

“The S-300 missile system is effectively performing its work against a significant part of the objects of the Russian invaders and can shoot down an aircraft, cruise, or ballistic missiles at a distance between 5 and 150 kilometers. At the same time, it doesn’t matter at how far a distance a target flies – 10 meters or 27 kilometers,” reads the statement.

Previously, in early April, Slovakia officially confirmed the transfer of S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine.

The transfer of weapons was conditional on the guarantees that the air defense systems would be replaced by those from NATO partner states.

The S-300 is a medium-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). It was adopted in the USSR in 1979. It is designed for the defense of large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases, and control points from strikes of enemy air and space attacks.

The system is capable of destroying missile targets. S-300 became the first anti-aircraft missile system that can follow up to 6 targets and launch up to 12 missiles.
