Ukrainian drone manufacturer TAF Industries has received a request from shipowners to deploy its specialists with anti-drone equipment to the Middle East.

The company shared this with BBC News Ukraine.

Their task is to ensure the ship’s protection during its passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

“We received a request from one of the shipowners to ensure the safety of his ship during its passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This is about providing military consulting services, not about exporting drones,” Oleksandr Yakovenko, the company’s founder, told BBC News Ukraine.

According to him, several Ukrainian specialists from the company are expected to be present on board the ship during its passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

To protect the vessel, they may use their own systems, including interceptor drones against Iranian Shaheds.

After the successful and safe passage through the strait, the “military consulting” service by Ukrainian specialists will be considered complete.

TAF Industries is one of the largest manufacturers of FPV drones, electronic warfare systems, and Kolibri and Octopus interceptor drones in Ukraine.

Speaking on the possibility of involvement in ensuring the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Oleksandr Yakovenko emphasized that Ukrainian experience is “our advantage in the global defense market.”

However, to provide “military consulting” services, a Ukrainian company must obtain an export permit from state institutions, in particular the State Export Control Service and the Interdepartmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation Policy and Export Control.

Despite significant interest and even hype around Ukrainian weapons — primarily interceptor drones — as of the end of April, these bodies have not yet issued any permits for the export of finished products abroad.
