Switzerland will expand its deployment of counter-drone systems to better protect military infrastructure, following a rise in unauthorized drone flights over sites across Europe.

Reuters reports that the Swiss Armed Forces have tasked the Federal Office for Defence Procurement with acquiring new systems after successful trials conducted this summer.

The focus will be on countering micro and mini drones, which are particularly difficult to detect and neutralize.

Meanwhile, the military has signed framework agreements with three suppliers for the purchase of commercial mini-drones, equipment, and related services worth approximately $136 million.

The names of the companies are not being disclosed for security reasons.

It is worth noting that the number of unauthorized drone flights over civilian and military facilities has increased sharply in recent times.

Specifically, German authorities suspect that unknown drones conducted espionage on critical infrastructure in the state of Schleswig-Holstein last week.
