The Russian fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jet has taken to the air for the first time with the promising Izdeliye 177 engine.
The start of flight tests of the engine was confirmed in the Russian aviation industry by the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation.
The program involves the United Aircraft Corporation and the United Engine Corporation, both part of Rostec.
The first flight was performed by test pilot Roman Kondratiev. The flight went off as planned.
The corporation said that the Su-57 has already been used in combat and meets the requirements of the fifth generation.
Further modernization of the aircraft is also reported, taking into account the experience of the war against Ukraine.
The new engine has increased thrust and is designed to improve the flight characteristics of the platform.
The Su-57 is positioned as a multi-role aircraft to engage air, ground and sea targets.
Special emphasis is placed on the ability to operate in the face of modern air defense systems.
The Izdeliye (product – Ed.) 177 engine is designed specifically for fifth-generation aircraft systems.
The declared thrust at afterburner is up to 16,000 kgf. Also, the aircraft features reduced fuel consumption and increased service life.
At the same time, the Russian industry plans to increase production of the Su-57, including for export.
