The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained FSB agents who were planning to eliminate several dozen Ukrainian military personnel.
This was reported on the SSU’s Telegram page.
Under the personal coordination of Director Oleksandr Poklad, the SSU’s military counterintelligence unit thwarted a series of terrorist attacks by Russian special services in the Kharkiv region.
According to the investigation, the two agents—who had previously set fire to a Defense Forces vehicle and taken photos and videos of restricted facilities—were recruited via Telegram channels.
They planned to eliminate the military personnel by organizing a themed event in the form of a charity party and, during the event, spiking their drinks with potent substances that would lead to fatal consequences.
At the same time, the suspects were tasked by their handler to manufacture a homemade explosive device (HED) with a 10 kg explosive charge.
To this end, the suspects rented a house outside the city and posted invitations to the party on a number of local Telegram channels.
The SSU acted preemptively and detained one of the suspects as he was carrying the IED in a backpack. Another female agent, a resident of the Kharkiv region, was detained in a rented house where she was synthesizing the components for the explosive.
During searches of the agents’ premises, authorities seized components for the improvised explosive device, as well as phones containing instructions from a Russian handler regarding reconnaissance and sabotage missions.
The suspects have been placed in pretrial detention without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment.
Also, on July 25, the SSU’s Counterintelligence Directorate exposed FSB agents in Kyiv and Dnipro who had activated approximately 1,100 Starlink satellite terminals for the Russian military.
