Military counterintelligence detained a mobilized serviceman who was adjusting fire on the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ units in the Kursk sector.

The Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a Russian military intelligence agent at the Sumy border, who was adjusting enemy fire on the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ units in the Kursk region.

According to the investigation, the detainee turned out to be a mobilized serviceman whom the invaders recruited through a Telegram channel.

The Russian intelligence service instructed him to integrate into the Ukrainian military to collect intelligence for Russia. To do this, the traitor first enlisted in a military unit in one of Ukraine’s rear regions and later transferred to a combat brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that carries out missions in the Kursk region.

While on the front line, the “mole” was preparing coordinates for missiles and airstrikes by the aggressor on Ukrainian military positions. The main targets of the enemy included electronic warfare systems that protect the front-line positions of our troops from Russian drone attacks.

The Russian invaders also hoped to obtain the coordinates of Ukrainian self-propelled artillery systems that maintain fire control over the invaders’ assault groups.

The agent transmitted the gathered information to his handler via a messenger, including photos of Ukrainian weapons, their locations on Google Maps, and text comments with explanations.

The SSU Military Counterintelligence uncovered the traitor at the beginning of his cooperation with the invaders. During this time, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and every step of the agent was documented.

At the final stage of the special operation, the Security Service of Ukraine detained the suspect “in the act” while he was preparing an intelligence report for the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. A phone with an anonymous chat in a messenger, where he was in contact with the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, was seized from the detainee at the scene.

A month earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine had uncovered and detained the Head of the staff of the SSU’s Anti-Terrorist Center, who had been spying for the Russian Federation.

The operational and investigative team that was responsible for the investigation of the traitor documented 14 episodes of illegal activity in favor of Russia. The SSU has been passing disinformation to the enemy through the traitor for a long time, first as part of counterintelligence activities and later as part of criminal proceedings.
