Satellite Imagery Confirms New Damage to Ryazan Oil Refinery Units

Satellite imagery has confirmed new damage to processing equipment at the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of Russia’s largest oil refineries.

Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the plant on the morning of September 6, causing a fire to break out on the facility’s premises.

Analysis of satellite data indicates that repairs are also underway at the refinery’s oil-processing units, ELOU-AVT-3 and ELOU-AVT-4, which were damaged in previous strikes.

Together, these units had an annual primary crude oil processing capacity of approximately 7.3 million tons before the Ukrainian strikes, accounting for about 41% of the Ryazan Refinery’s total primary processing capacity.

According to Militarnyi’s analysis, Ukrainian drones attacked the Isomalk-2-LIN-800 low-temperature isomerization unit for pentane-hexane fractions on September 6.

The unit is a critical part of the Ryazan Refinery’s processing cycle. It converts low-octane straight-run petroleum fractions into a high-octane, sustainable component.

This component enables the refinery to produce automotive gasoline meeting high environmental standards, including Euro 5, without adding harmful additives.

This is not the first attack on this part of the refinery. In December 2025, drones attacked it, damaging the unit.

In addition, the ELOU-AVT-3, ELOU-AVT-6, and AVT-1 units were targeted in previous attacks. In May 2026, it became known that the Ryazan Oil Refinery had lost 90–100% of its oil processing capacity.

Ryazan Oil Refinery

The Ryazan Oil Refinery is part of Rosneft. It is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 17 million tons of crude oil.

The refinery produces all grades of automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied gases, bitumen, and petrochemical feedstock. It is a major supplier of motor fuel to the regions surrounding the Russian capital.
