Russia has increased production of Geran-4 and Geran-5 strike drones to 4,000 per month, twice the output of the Geran-2 jet-powered drones.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine disclosed this to NV in response to an inquiry about Russia’s weapons stockpiles.
The jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles can reach speeds of 400–500 km/h, making them more difficult for Ukrainian mobile fire groups to intercept.
According to intelligence reports, Russia also produces around 2,000 Geran-2 drones each month.
As recently as August, Russian facilities were producing around 3,000 Geran-4/5 kamikaze drones and approximately 2,800 Geran-2 strike drones per month. This means production of jet-powered drones has increased by one-third.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine attributes the shift in production priorities to the operational effectiveness of Ukrainian mobile fire teams, which are intercepting large numbers of slower-moving aerial targets, including Geran-2 UAVs.
According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, production lines for jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have already been adapted to support further production scaling.
Overall, Russia’s military industry has reached its planned production rate of approximately 10,000 UAVs per month. This figure includes strike and reconnaissance UAVs, as well as decoy drones, including the Gerbera.
The Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Tatarstan remains the primary production hub, where capacity for airframe assembly and onboard systems integration has been expanded.
As of autumn, Russian forces had also accumulated an operational reserve of approximately 6,200 Geran drones of various modifications.
Militarnyi previously reported that Russian industry had begun adjusting the production ratio of different types of strike drones by late summer. At that time, jet-powered versions surpassed piston-engine models in production rates for the first time.
In addition, Russia has localized production of the turbojet engine for the Geran-4, replacing the Chinese-made TeleflyTF-TJ2000A with a domestically produced equivalent. The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine disclosed this information in early October.
