The Russian company KAMAZ has announced the development of a new armored personnel carrier.
This was reported by the company’s CEO, Sergey Kogogin, during a meeting with Vladimir Putin, according to the Telegram channel “Voenny Osvedomitel”.
The project is currently in the prototype development stage, with plans to unveil it in 2026.
After that, the vehicle is scheduled to undergo testing later that same year.
And in 2027, according to the original source, a pilot production run is planned.
According to the report, the development is intended to replace outdated armored personnel carrier models.
At the same time, KAMAZ is not a traditional manufacturer of APCs — this niche in Russia is occupied by other companies, notably the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant.
The company specializes in commercial vehicles and armored vehicles of the Typhoon and Lynx families.
Presumably, the new vehicle will feature a 6×6 or 8×8 wheeled platform with mine and bullet protection.
It may be armed with a remotely controlled combat module equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun or a 30 mm cannon.
“The design will include a convenient ramp for troop disembarkation, which will allow for more effective use of the vehicle as transport on the front lines,” KamAZ states regarding its expectations.
As a reminder, Belarus and Russia recently developed a project to modernize the BTR-60.
