Rheinmetall showed unmanned system, calls it “gamechanger”
Rheinmetall Combat Drone

The German Rheinmetall showed its latest Combat Drone unmanned aerial system.

A video with the system was published on the company’s Youtube channel.

The manufacturer demonstrated an example of system’s operational use without giving details about its tactical and technical specifications.

Rheinmetall Combat Drone has an airframe visually identical to the LUNA drone, information about which is available on the company’s website. And the original creator of the drone is the Spanish company Embention.

Rheinmetall states that LUNA has an endurance of up to 12 hours and can maintain communications with the control post up to 100 km away.

LUNA is launched by catapult.

Quadcopters equipped with munition are loaded into the inner container of the UAV. After detection of targets, these UAVs are launched and accurately aimed. Quadcopters destroy targets like kamikaze drones. Combat Drone visually recorded the target’s affection using an optical module.

In the Rheinmetall’s video, a kamikaze drone destroyed an antenna and a vehicle hidden in the building.

Control was carried out from a safe control post by three operators. The video was transmitted in real time and displayed on a monitor with elements of augmented reality.

Such an original concept for a reconnaissance and combat system, according to the developers, turns it into a “gamechanger” in its niche.
