The Polish StormRider surface drone took part in joint exercises with the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate Gen. T. Kościuszko in the Baltic Sea.
Defence24 reported on this.
Data collected during the exercises were transmitted to the NATO summit in Ankara. As part of the NATO Task Force X demonstration, the system and its ability to transmit data from onboard sensors over long distances were demonstrated.
Task Force X is an initiative launched in February 2025 by NATO Command Transformation.
It is an experimental program aimed at testing and implementing advanced technologies in maritime operations as quickly as possible.
StormRider was first introduced in late August 2025. It was developed by WB Group.
The drone is designed for operations in maritime and coastal environments, in particular to enhance the capabilities of naval forces.
StormRider can operate autonomously or in cooperation with ships, increasing the effectiveness of reconnaissance, patrolling, and protection of strategically important maritime areas.
Its tasks include defending ports, roadsteads, and critical maritime infrastructure.
The drone can also be used for counter-sabotage operations.
The platform is equipped with a suite of high-precision sensors, including navigation radar, sonar, and an echo sounder, that provide continuous environmental monitoring.
StormRider is also equipped with an optoelectronic suite, including a day-channel camera, thermal imaging camera, and laser rangefinder.
The drone’s strike capabilities can be enhanced with a remotely controlled ZMU-05N combat station or a WARMATE TL launcher for loitering munitions.
The drone is 8.5 meters long and 3 meters wide.
