Norway and Ukraine Launch Joint Production of Thousands of Mid-Strike Drones

A joint Ukrainian–Norwegian company in Norway will produce several thousand mid-strike drones.

According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, all the drones will be supplied to the Ukrainian military.

The project will be funded by Norway using additional resources on top of the $7 billion already allocated for Ukraine’s defense support in 2026.

The agreement was signed in Kyiv by Norway’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Lars Ragnar Aalerud Hansen, and Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence for European Integration, Serhii Boiev.

Earlier, it was reported that Norway would manufacture drones under license from a Ukrainian company.

The first systems made in Norway are expected to be delivered to Ukraine’s Defense Forces by this summer.

The deal also includes broader industrial cooperation, including research and development.

“Supporting Ukraine’s fight is the most important thing we do for Norway’s security. This is mutually beneficial cooperation. It is an important and concrete step toward strengthening Norwegian-Ukrainian ties, while also boosting Norway’s defense industry and allowing Ukraine to produce drones safely on Norwegian territory,” said Norway’s Minister of Defence, Tore Onshuus Sandvik.

He added that the experience gained from the project will help Norway expand its production capacity in this critical field.

Mutually beneficial technological and industrial cooperation with partners is one of Ukraine’s key priorities.

This year, Norway plans to allocate more than $1.5 billion in total to purchase Ukrainian-made weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Joint production projects and guaranteed baseline supply of drones for brigades directly strengthen our forces on the battlefield. Norway gains the opportunity to produce technologies that have proven their effectiveness, while Ukraine receives the drones needed to regain the initiative at the front. This is a true win-win partnership,” said Defence Minister of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov.
