Lithuania has purchased a new batch of Giraffe 1X air threat detection radars from Saab.

The Ministry of Defense reported that these radars integrate well with the country’s defense systems.

At the same time, Lithuania is developing an integrated system to counter air threats — from detection to interception and neutralization.

“We are consistently strengthening Lithuania’s air defense and basing our decision-making on the experience of the ongoing war in Ukraine,” said Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas.

The Giraffe 1X radar is a compact three-dimensional air surveillance system. It is designed to detect and track air targets, including drones, in real time.

The Giraffe 1X can operate as a fixed, mobile, or ship-based installation, providing flexibility in combat conditions. The radar is capable of detecting air targets at distances of up to 75 kilometers.

Last year, Latvia also received new Giraffe 1X airspace surveillance radars.
