Mysterious MEROPS Intercepted More than a Thousand Shahed-Like Drones over Ukraine

The American anti-aircraft drone system MEROPS has intercepted more than a thousand Shahed-like drones in the skies over Ukraine.

The complex, created as part of the American Project Eagle initiative, has attracted the attention of NATO countries due to its successful use in Ukraine.

Although it has been reported that more than a thousand Shahed drones have been shot down, it is likely that other kamikaze drones, such as the Gerbera, as well as various decoy drones, have also been hit.

It is known that the MEROPS system is based on Surveyor anti-aircraft drones, which cost approximately $15,000 per unit.

One system includes a ground control station, launchers, and interceptor drones.

The exact technical characteristics of the complex are not disclosed, but it is known that the speed of the interceptor drone exceeds 280 kilometers per hour.

Recently, it was reported that the Polish military has begun mastering this complex.

The training is conducted by US instructors as part of the Eastern Sentry program, which aims to strengthen the defense of NATO’s eastern flank.

The deployment of the system in Poland was first reported in early November.

In Ukraine, the American Merops system has been operating for at least six months.

It was then that pro-Russian resources published photos of a drone with an unusual wing design, which eventually turned out to be a Surveyor.
