Self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarusian military facilities are vulnerable to Ukrainian drone attacks.
He made the remarks in an interview with Al Arabiya, published on June 15.
Lukashenko claimed that Ukraine should not expect an attack from Belarusian territory.
Lukashenko also apologized to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his harsh remarks.
He acknowledged that Belarus is “highly vulnerable from a military standpoint if Ukraine starts attacking Belarus in the same way it attacks Russia.”
According to Lukashenko, Belarus is “an open book” to the Ukrainian military.
“We fully understand that our key infrastructure facilities, including industrial and logistics sites, would come under attack. As they have stated, they have already identified 500 such targets on the territory of Belarus,” Lukashenko said.
Previously, Ukrainian military officials stated that they had already identified 500 targets in Belarus if the country entered the war on Russia’s side. In response, Belarus’s self-proclaimed president threatened to strike one “very serious” target in Ukraine.
In May, Belarusian State Security Council Secretary Alexander Volfovich claimed in Moscow, during a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Security Council Secretaries Committee, that Ukraine had allegedly made numerous attempts to attack border infrastructure using drones.
Meanwhile, Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, said that Belarus’s accusations of alleged drone attacks by Ukraine were yet another attempt to shift responsibility onto Kyiv.
Belarus continues to support Russia’s war effort against Ukraine. It recently emerged that the Belarusian company Elementarnye Mashiny supplied technological equipment to Russia’s military industry.
The equipment was delivered to the Cheboksary Production Association named after V. I. Chapaev, a Russian defense plant specializing in ammunition production.
