The American company Lockheed Martin has developed a new JASSM-XR cruise missile with an extended range.
This is reported by the official website of Lockheed Martin.
The new missile is a modernized version of the JASSM cruise missile, but with a significantly increased range of up to 1600 km.
A significant increase in range and its ability to be used by US combat aircraft will create a total advantage for US forces in the future and significantly increase the strike potential of the air component.
The new missile from the American aerospace leader has been enlarged in size, resulting in a significantly increased maximum launch range and a warhead weight of 540 kg.
As in previous versions, the guidance system has been improved to increase the accuracy of the inertial guidance system and the global positioning system.
At the final section of the trajectory, targets are searched for using a nose infrared camera, which provides a circular probable deviation of no more than 3 meters.
The new missile can be used by both air force fighters and naval aviation of the US Navy.
Recently, more and more countries around the world have begun placing orders for the purchase of JASSM cruise missiles in standard and enhanced ER configurations with an extended range of up to 960 km.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Netherlands had ordered AGM-158 JASSM-ER cruise missiles from the United States to arm fifth generation F-35A fighter jets.
The American company noted that the document of agreement between US and Dutch officials would make the Netherlands the fifth international operator of JASSM cruise missiles.
In addition, in February of this year, the US State Department approved the sale of 120 AGM-158B/B-2 JASSM-ER cruise missiles and related equipment and services to the Netherlands. The estimated cost is $908 million.
