In Libya, Unidentified Drone Attacked Fuel Tank at Oil Refinery

A massive fire broke out at an oil refinery in the city of Zawia, Libya, after a drone struck a gasoline tank.

This was reported by the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), according to Al Jazeera. Additionally, GEOINT analysis by Militarnyi pinpointed the location of the fire.

The attack resulted in the complete destruction of a Brega Oil tank containing 4.5 million liters of fuel.

NOC management declared a maximum emergency level and warned of the possible imposition of force majeure and a complete shutdown of the plant if the attacks continue.

The facility in Zawia is located 40 km west of Tripoli and is the largest operating refinery in the country, with a processing capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.

The day before, drones struck a desalination plant and an oil tank, and later another drone crashed near the oil blending station. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, head of the UN-recognized government in Tripoli, held a meeting with security officials to discuss the response to threats against critical infrastructure, while a relevant parliamentary committee called for increased security in the energy sector.
