L3Harris has introduced its new AMORPHOUS software, which has a single user interface for simultaneously managing thousands of autonomous objects.
This was announced by L3Harris in a press release.
The new software is based on open architecture and will allow the U.S. armed forces and their allies to simultaneously control different types of drones, even if they are from different manufacturers.
It is stated that the new software can simultaneously control both UAVs and ground and surface drones.
AMORPHOUS supports decentralized decision-making. This allows individual drones to autonomously perform their tasks and make tactical decisions in real time within the network.
“Autonomy is a force multiplier, which is why we designed AMORPHOUS to be a multi-domain, multi-purpose system that rapidly integrates diverse systems without crew on the battlefield,” said John Rambo, L3Harris president of integrated systems.
It is reported that L3Harris is currently developing prototypes using the AMORPHOUS architecture under contracts for the U.S. Army and the Defense Innovation Agency. The AMORPHOUS software has already demonstrated its flexibility and interoperability by controlling several separate drones of different types during government tests.
In July 2024, it became known that the Ukrainian company Swarmer is developing a Styx system, which is supposed to unite a group of drones into an autonomous network, where the operator will only select the target and authorize its destruction.
Styx is designed to control reconnaissance and strike drones. These can be aircraft or ground drones of various ranges.
The company’s CEO, Serhii Kuprienko, said that such a system would increase the scale of drone use. Within its framework, each copter will be able to plan its own actions and predict the behavior of others in the swarm.
In October 2024, the Brave1 Cluster, together with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the General Staff, and the National Guard, conducted demonstration tests of the new development. The drone swarm technology was presented by seven teams of manufacturers at once.
This was necessary so that representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff could see what the Ukrainian manufacturer could do and give their recommendations for improving the products.
