Interceptor Drones Integrated Into Boxer Armored Vehicle

Germany has developed the Boxer UAV, an armored vehicle capable of launching interceptor drones and reconnaissance UAVs.

KNDS Deutschland unveiled a prototype of the vehicle at the Eurosatory exhibition, as reported by EDR Magazine.

The new vehicle is equipped with three types of drones: a helicopter-type UAV for conducting reconnaissance at tactical range, a compact close-range reconnaissance drone, and interceptor drones.

According to the publication, the helicopter-type UAV is likely a prototype from the Swiss company Anavia, part of EDGE, or from the Austrian company Vectacore. For close-range reconnaissance, the vehicle uses the MX10 drone manufactured by KNDS France.

The large reconnaissance UAV is stored inside the hull on a movable platform. To launch it, the platform moves the drone to the central part of the vehicle and, after opening the roof section, raises it above the hull. The drone then deploys its propellers and takes off.

The Boxer UAV also carries five Interceptor EOS interceptor drones manufactured by Tytan, which are designed to provide self-defense for the vehicle and its crew against enemy drones. They are mounted on the left side of the vehicle on a movable tray, which moves to the center of the hull before launch and raises the interceptor above the roof.

The Interceptor EOS is a 3.5-kg electric drone designed to destroy enemy UAVs up to and including Class II. It has a range of 20 km, a service ceiling of 3,000 meters, and a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The interceptor has no explosive warhead and destroys the target through direct impact using its own kinetic energy.

During the initial phase of flight, the Interceptor EOS is guided by a ground-based radar station. At the same time, the drone is equipped with an autonomous navigation system, and a thermal imaging camera mounted in the nose, equipped with artificial intelligence algorithms, is responsible for target detection.

The Boxer UAV crew consists of three service members: a driver, a commander, and an operator. The vehicle is equipped with the iC2D command and control system manufactured by KNDS, which allows for the simultaneous control of three reconnaissance UAVs.

The UAVs can take off while the carrier vehicle is in motion. The reusable UAVs are also capable of landing on the Boxer UAV while it is moving. The takeoff and landing system is reportedly protected against electronic warfare and can operate in the absence of GNSS signals.

This concept is likely a further development of the Boxer UxV CS unmanned aerial vehicle control module for the Boxer wheeled armored personnel carrier, which KNDS Deutschland unveiled at the Enforce Tac 2026 exhibition in February 2026.

The module’s primary purpose is to control aerial and ground unmanned systems, as well as loitering munitions. However, the module’s design does not provide for the transport of drones; separate logistics platforms are to be used for their transport.
