Houthis Attacked Saudi Aramco Oil Refinery in Saudi Arabia

The Houthis attacked a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in the city of Jizan, Saudi Arabia.

The attack took place early in the morning local time, resulting in a fire on the refinery grounds.

This is confirmed by video footage from local residents, and data from NASA’s FIRMS monitoring service showed an abnormal rise in temperature at 4:17 a.m.

The Aramco oil refinery in Jizan itself is one of the newest and most modern oil refining complexes in Saudi Arabia. The facility has a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels per day.

Commercial operations began in 2021, and the complex reached full capacity around 2023.

Currently, the Houthis are actively carrying out attacks on oil facilities and imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis support Iran’s actions and are therefore taking reciprocal measures in its support.

For example, on July 20, the Yemeni Houthis announced the imposition of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, which, given the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, could cause serious disruptions in the global energy market.

Representatives of the movement emphasized that this decision was a response to the ‘unjust and oppressive siege’ that Saudi Arabia has allegedly imposed on Yemen.

Reuters reported that a complete blockade of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait—the southern entrance to the Red Sea—would halt Saudi oil exports to Asian countries and reduce global oil supplies by approximately 7%.

In addition to the Houthis, Somali pirates have stepped up their activities in the Gulf of Aden—one of the world’s most important trade routes, through which up to 15% of global maritime cargo traffic passes.

This surge in activity is taking place against the backdrop of tensions between the USA and Iran in the region, indicating the emergence of a new ally for Iran thanks to significant financial investments and arms supplies.
