The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated UAH 7.9 billion for the purchase of drones for the Defense Forces.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this at a government meeting on February 21.
These funds will be redirected to the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, which will make the necessary purchases.
The Prime Minister also said that domestic production in the drone segment was almost 100%. In January of this year, drone production in Ukraine increased tenfold compared to January 2024.
In addition, according to him, in 2023 and 2024, domestic production of artillery increased threefold, armored personnel carriers – fivefold, anti-tank weapons – twofold, and ammunition – 2.5 times.
“At the same time, we are currently producing about a third of the weapons we need. The task set by the Government is to bring our own production of weapons to at least half of the existing demand,” Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister also added that to achieve that goal, the government had allocated a record amount of money for the modernization of the Ukrainian defense industry and the purchase of weapons.
The day before, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that the Ministry of Defence had launched a new model for providing the Ukrainian Defense Forces with drones.
The move is aimed at speeding up the supply of drones to the frontline and supporting domestic manufacturers.
A key innovation is the introduction of the DOT-Chain Defense System, which gives brigades the ability to determine which drones they need, depending on the situation on the battlefield.
At the same time, domestic producers will get a clear picture of demand and will be able to plan their production more efficiently.
In 2025, the Ministry of Defence plans to spend more than UAH 44 billion on the purchase of FPV drones.
