Germany Searches for Secret Russian Weapons Caches — Bild

In Germany, law enforcement and intelligence agencies are searching for weapons caches that Russian agents may have prepared for sabotage operations at defense facilities.

The German publication BILD reported this.

German intelligence agencies received information from foreign intelligence about the possible transport of weapons from Serbia to Germany.

The weapons may have been intended for sabotage against a defense facility in Bavaria, where many defense companies producing weapons for Ukraine are located.

On June 27, German border guards stopped a truck that had entered the country from Austria. They found specially equipped hidden compartments inside, but they were empty.

Investigators are now examining whether these weapons could have entered Germany earlier and been hidden elsewhere.

Investigators suspect that the weapons may have been unloaded earlier and hidden somewhere in Germany. Law enforcement officials are therefore trying to locate a possible hiding place.

According to BILD, the investigation is also looking into a possible connection between this case and Russian intelligence services. German security agencies have not yet disclosed details of the investigation.

The increased activity of Russian intelligence services in Germany is not new and is growing rapidly. The country is seeing both an increase in arson attacks on German military equipment—such as on September 26, 2026, when three Bundeswehr trucks were burned at the MAN facility near Magdeburg—and attempts to set fire to defense companies.

On the night of September 3, incendiary devices were thrown from a moving vehicle onto a construction site near the companies’ headquarters.

While inspecting the scene, law enforcement officers found another incendiary device that had not detonated. It was rendered harmless.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers detained two Bulgarian citizens—a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man—at a gas station. They may have been part of a group linked to Russian military intelligence operating out of Slovakia.

Meanwhile, the German Ministry of the Interior intends to develop a set of measures to counter Russian sabotage, including cyberattacks.

These measures are intended to ensure complete protection against drones in the airspace above critical infrastructure, airports, train stations, and the government district of the capital. In addition to interception, their tasks also include neutralizing explosive devices.

This followed the discovery on the night of August 5 of a drone equipped with explosives near a Ukrainian An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft. On September 1, Germany officially accused Russia.
