The Ukrainian military, being trained in the Czech Republic at the Libava training ground, is ready to go back to Ukraine.

Both recruits and experienced military personnel were in combat coordination. They were trained with small arms, armored vehicles and taught to improve their command skills.

“The Czech Republic stands with you. You are heroes for Czech soldiers and for citizens of the Czech Republic,” said Jana Černochová, Czech Defense Minister, during a meeting with the Ukrainian military.

By the end of next year, 4 more groups of Ukrainian soldiers should undergo training in the Czech Republic. The next phase will begin at the end of January 2023.

Up to 4 thousand Ukrainian defenders, mainly from mechanized units,
have to be trained in total.

Since some of the Ukrainian military personnel that are trained in Czechia have combat experience, they share their skills and knowledge of real hostilities with their Czech colleagues.

“This is also an advantage for our army, Ukrainians pass on their vast experience to us,” Černochová said.

According to Roman Náhončík, Commander of the Land Forces of the Czech army, the Ukrainian military spent about three weeks in Libava.

A unit of several hundred men conducted gunfire and tactical training. The program also included planning of the attack, defense and movement.

“They show each other how they do it, how we do it, and then everyone chooses their own from it and uses it in their work,” Náhončík said.

Recall that the first group of Ukrainian military began training on December 4 this year.

The trainings are carried out on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the governments of the Czech Republic and Ukraine. In the future, according to the documents, these trainings may move on to the EU mission. Then it can return to the Czech Republic part of the costs estimated at 975 million crowns (about $36 million).

The Czech Republic will also send up to 55 troops to participate in the EU EUMAM Ukraine mission.
