A fire broke out at JSC Proton-PM’s premises near Perm, Russia, for reasons that remain unknown. The company is part of Russia’s rocket and space industry.

Proton-PM specializes in manufacturing rocket engines and other equipment for the space and aviation industries.
The plant produces the RD-191, a liquid-fueled rocket engine used in Russia’s Angara family of launch vehicles. The Angara launch vehicle is also part of Russia’s plans to expand its Rassvet satellite constellation.
Militarnyi analyzed publicly available data and determined that the fire likely broke out in a newly built engine production workshop.
The fire site is more than 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border.
The cause of the fire and information about any possible damage are currently unknown.
