European intelligence agencies are warning that Russia could step up aggressive actions against NATO countries.

According to intelligence assessments, the Kremlin could carry out provocations or even a limited incursion into NATO territory in the coming months, The Guardian reports.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in particular, warned that Russia could launch drone or missile attacks to test how NATO would respond under Article 5, the alliance’s collective-defense provision.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Tusk’s concerns were justified and called an emergency meeting with political leaders to discuss the growing threat from Russia.

Michal Koudelka, head of the Czech intelligence agency BIS, said that Russia could use disinformation campaigns and false-flag provocations.

Meanwhile, Normunds Mežviets, the director general of Latvia’s State Security Service, stressed that there are currently no direct signs of an imminent attack.

For this reason, officials from the Baltic states believe that publicly amplifying the risk of an invasion only benefits the Kremlin by helping to intimidate the West.

Recently, Russia’s Leningrad Region introduced additional restrictions in the border districts of Kingisepp and Slantsy from September 16 to 26.
