Ukrainian strike drones struck a Russian petrochemical plant and an oil refinery, causing fires to break out at both facilities.
According to the Exilenova+ Telegram channel, which shared photos and videos from the scene, the attacks occurred in the early hours of June 12.
One of the targets was Tolyattikauchuk, a major petrochemical plant located in Tolyatti, which was reportedly hit by drones before dawn.
Following the strike, thick black smoke from a fire was seen rising above the plant. Russian air-defense units and electronic warfare systems were reportedly active in the city, attempting to counter the Ukrainian drones.
Tolyattikauchuk is one of the largest industrial enterprises in the region and a strategic facility that supplies roughly a quarter of Russia’s synthetic rubber market.
The plant manufactures four types of synthetic rubber, along with chemical components used in tire production and other rubber-based products. It also produces high-octane gasoline additives, hydrocarbon feedstocks, and a range of petrochemical products.
The facility was previously targeted in a drone strike on the night of April 3–4. That attack triggered multiple fires across the plant’s grounds.
Drones also targeted an industrial facility overnight in the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk. According to Exilenova+, the strike hit Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
However, reports circulating on social media suggest that a different facility may have been struck – the TANECO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk.
It is one of Russia’s newest and largest oil refineries. The facility is a strategic asset of Tatneft and produces more than 20 types of high-quality petroleum products.
On March 31, an explosion and subsequent fire were reported at Nizhnekamskneftekhim. The facility is one of the largest petrochemical plants in Russia and Europe, specializing in the production of synthetic rubber, base polymers, and other organic synthesis products.
