Thick white smoke rose from the Bashkir Soda Company plant in Sterlitamak, Russia, following a Ukrainian drone attack.

According to the ASTRA media outlet, the attack took place on the morning of October 29, 2026, after a drone threat alert was issued in the region.

Bashkir Soda Company is one of Russia’s largest chemical complexes. The plant produces soda ash, baking soda, polyvinyl chloride, hydrochloric acid, and ethylene dichloride. The company is part of the Roskhim chemical holding.

The facility also manufactures products for Russia’s defense-industrial complex, including terephthaloyl chloride. Bashkir Soda Company is the only producer of this compound in Russia. It is used to manufacture high-strength aramid fibers, which are used in body armor, helmets, and other protective equipment.

This is not the first attack on the facility. On August 27, 2026, Ukrainian strike drones had already targeted the city’s industrial zone. Following the attack, smoke rose in an area where several Russian industrial facilities operate.
