Strike drones targeted the Elma research and manufacturing facility in Zelenograd, near Moscow.
According to the ASTRA media outlet, the attack took place overnight between May 16 and 17, sparking a fire at the facility.
According to local residents, shortly after a drone alert was issued, they heard a powerful explosion followed by thick black smoke rising from the facility.
The facility spans more than 60,000 square meters and houses Russian companies involved in the development and production of microelectronics.
Zelenograd is located about 30–37 kilometers northwest of central Moscow and is one of the Russian capital’s twelve administrative districts.
The city is widely regarded as Russia’s main center for electronics and microelectronics research and manufacturing.
After analyzing photos and videos from the scene, ASTRA identified the fire’s location at coordinates 55.981885, 37.218559.
Companies operating within the Elma technopark are linked to supply chains that serve Russia’s military industry. The technopark itself hosts more than 150 companies.
The facility develops components, sensors, optical equipment, and other dual-use technologies for microelectronics that are later supplied to Russian defense manufacturers.
This is not the first attack on the facility. On May 28, 2025, strike drones had already targeted the facility.
At that time, at least one building was damaged by the explosion and ensuing fire.
