Ukrainian strike drones attacked the Metafrax chemical plant in the city of Gubakha, the Perm region.
The attack on the facility was reported by the region’s governor, Dmitry Makhonin.
The attack took place on May 23, 2026. According to photos and video footage from locals, there is evidence of a successful attack. Indeed, in one of the videos, smoke can be seen rising from the chemical plant’s grounds.
It is worth noting that PJSC Metafrax Chemicals is one of Russia’s largest chemical enterprises, a global player in the production of methanol and its derivatives, as well as a strategic supplier of raw materials for the Russian defense-industrial complex.
In particular, the company produces urea—a chemical component for ammonium nitrate/fuel oil (ANFO) explosives, which can serve as raw material for explosive devices used in industry and, theoretically, for artillery shells or mines.
Although Metafrax Chemicals does not publicly associate itself with Russia’s defense-industrial complex, its parent company, Roskhim, is one of the main suppliers of chemical products to various Russian military enterprises.
The plant is located about 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border. It has already been attacked by Ukrainian drones in the past.
