North Korea has presented the Hwasong-20, its new intercontinental ballistic missile, during a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
The event took place in Pyongyang and was attended by Kim Jong Un as well as delegations from China, Russia, Vietnam, and other countries, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The Hwasong-20, a successor to the Hwasong-19 missile, is capable of carrying multiple warheads, making it more difficult to intercept. The missile potentially has a range of over 15,000 kilometers, allowing it to strike targets on U.S. territory.
The missile was showcased on an 11-axle mobile launch platform, similar to the one used for the Hwasong-19. North Korean propaganda described the Hwasong-20 as the “most powerful nuclear strategic system” of the DPRK.
In September, Kim Jong Un inspected the production of a new solid-fuel engine with a thrust of 1,960 kN, which is set to be installed on the Hwasong-20.
Alongside the Hwasong-20, North Korea also showcased hypersonic missiles of medium and long range, the new Chonma-20 tank, and kamikaze drones resembling the Russian Lancet drone.
Additionally, at the parade, the DPRK unveiled a new missile equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle for the KN-23 tactical missile system – the same type used in attacks on Ukraine.
