Destroyed Storage Tanks, Pumping Station and Pipelines: Aftermath of Strikes on Kuibyshev Refinery

Following the September 22 attack, the Kuibyshev Refinery likely halted operations completely.

The OSINT project Absolutely Reliable Source reported on this, publishing satellite imagery with the aftermath of Ukrainian strikes on the facility.

Three oil storage tanks were destroyed, while another one was likely damaged.

The pumping station and pipelines leading to the AVT-4 and AVT-5 primary oil refining units also suffered damage.

Damage to the transport infrastructure and storage tanks disrupted the stable supply of feedstock, forcing the refinery to halt production.

At the same time, no direct signs of damage were observed on the primary and secondary oil refining units themselves.

The Kuibyshev Refinery is one of the leading refineries in the Volga region. The facility is located in Samara and is part of Rosneft’s vertically integrated structure.

Together with the Novokuibyshev and Syzran oil refineries, it forms Rosneft’s Samara group of refineries. The facilities in this refining cluster process crude oil produced by the company, including in Western Siberia and the Samara region.

The Kuibyshev Refinery has a design capacity of about 7 million tonnes of crude oil per year. However, actual processing volumes have remained lower in recent years. In 2024, the refinery processed 4.7 million tonnes of crude oil, or about 94,400 barrels per day.

During that period, the refinery produced about 800,000 tonnes of gasoline, 1.4 million tonnes of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tonnes of fuel oil.

The Moscow Oil Refinery halted oil refining completely following a Ukrainian drone attack on September 20.

The attack caused fires at both of the facility’s primary oil refining units, and restoring operations could take several weeks.
