The Defense Forces of Ukraine hit Voskhod-KLRZ, also known as the Kaluga Radio Tube Plant. This electronics manufacturer produces components for Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles, as well as Iskander-M ballistic missiles.

The OSINT project Supernova+ reported this on the evening of October 3, citing local residents.

Judging by videos published by local residents, cruise missiles or jet-powered drones were used in the strike. A characteristic jet-engine sound can be heard before the explosion.

Meanwhile, the governor claimed that Russian forces had destroyed 13 UAVs over the Kaluga region and Kaluga itself.

The Varta OSINT project reported that the Voskhod JSC, or the Kaluga Radio Tube Plant, specializes in developing and manufacturing high-reliability microelectronics, semiconductor components, specialized materials for the electronics industry, and equipment for testing components.

The plant produces digital integrated circuits, operational amplifiers, transistor arrays, optocouplers, semiconductor lasers and photodiodes. In a 2012 presentation, the company stated that more than 90% of its products were intended for Russia’s defense industry.

According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Voskhod is involved in producing Kh-101 cruise missiles. The company manufactured OSM140UD17A and UD601A operational amplifiers for the K003 computing unit, as well as 544UD16U3 amplifiers and N590KN13 analog switches for the Monoblock-L unit.

For the 9M727 missile of the Iskander-K system, the plant supplies trunk transmitters for the Zarya-61M onboard computer. It also manufactures converters, operational amplifiers, logic elements, and analog switches for circuit boards of the GIB-123-4 inertial navigation system.

The company is also involved in the production of 9M723 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M system. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Voskhod manufactures and supplies RUD20 microchips for these missiles.

Another military-related area of the plant’s work is equipment for maintaining armored vehicles. Its catalog includes the UChS-1G system for chemical cleaning of 125mm tank gun barrels and the PPSG-2-2 device for testing generator systems of BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as the starter-generator system of the T-72 tank. The company’s public catalog also offers the PKV-003 device for crimping, or mechanically securing, fuzes screwed into artillery ammunition ranging from 37mm to 152mm in caliber.

Ukraine imposed sanctions on Voskhod under Decree No. 227/2023 dated April 15, 2023, for a period of 10 years. At the same time, the company is not subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union, or the United Kingdom.

In early September, it was reported that almost half of the 155 companies owned by the Russian Roselectronika industrial holding, which specializes in developing and manufacturing radio-electronic components, remain outside sanctions.
