In the Czech Republic, a cutting-edge digital table has been developed to train commanders by simulating the management of units on a battlefield map.
The company VR Group told the publication Armadni noviny that their Wargaming Table has the potential to revolutionize education and strategic planning for the future.
Currently, VR Group is collaborating with the Centre for Security and Military Strategy Studies at the University of Defense of the Czech Republic to integrate digital wargaming into the training programs of the Czech Army.
“Wargaming is a way to learn something, gain experience, or find solutions to problems in a way that’s enjoyable for us — through play,” the company stated.
The Wargaming Table is a platform for touchscreen tabletop games with a large display, combining the advantages of digital technology with the simplicity of classic board games.
However, technology alone is not enough — for wargaming to be truly effective, it is essential to have a sufficient number of original scenarios created in accordance with the requirements and needs of the military.
It works like this: the user selects a scenario from the menu, studies the rules, and begins the game.
The advantage lies in the fact that the digital environment eliminates some of the tedious aspects of classic board games — such as endless dice rolling or searching for answers in paper manuals.
The table also offers the possibility of integration with other modern technologies, such as virtual or augmented reality.
Wargaming is a means of finding solutions and improving the ability to handle complex situations.
As early as the beginning of the 19th century, the Prussian board game Kriegsspiel was used to train the officer corps.
This game was widely used for staff training of officers and, according to the Prussian command, became an important factor in German victories.
