The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson urges allies to agree on the transfer of Multiple Launch Rocket Systems to Ukraine.
He said this in a Bloomberg interview.
Johnson stressed that Ukraine needs this support, as such systems are capable of hitting targets at a much greater distance.
He also supported Ukraine’s position on the impossibility of peace negotiations involving territorial concessions.
“How can you deal with a crocodile when it’s in the middle of eating your left leg? The guy’s (Putin – Ed.) completely not to be trusted,” Boris Johnson commented on the negotiations with Russia.
The publication notes that Ukraine has been asking nations to supply it with the MLRS as it grapples with advances by Russian troops in the eastern Donbas region.
That request has been met with some caution on whether it would bring Ukraine’s allied nations closer to direct confrontation with Russia.
It’s pointed out that while the Western MLRS would be more effective against Russian artillery, its deployment would add to the risk that missiles land over the border in Russia, whether intentionally or by accident.
But Johnson stressed that such systems “would enable them (Ukrainians – Ed.) to defend themselves against this very brutal Russian artillery.” The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom emphasized that providing Ukraine with MLRS is the way “the world needs to go.”
As previously reported, the United States could approve the transfer of long-range missile systems to Ukraine in the coming days, which could include the HIMARS.
