German defense company ARX Robotics and Ukrainian company Roboneers have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly develop and integrate unmanned ground systems.
The agreement was signed in Kyiv on October 4 in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
That same day, Zelensky and Merz attended the Ukrainian-German Business Forum, where the two sides reached several agreements covering the defense industry, unmanned systems, air defense, and energy.
The new agreement between ARX Robotics and Roboneers provides for deeper technical integration of the two companies’ systems, as well as joint research and development activities.
“Together with Roboneers, we are providing Ukrainian forces with a powerful yet intelligent fleet of unmanned ground systems at scale,” Witfeld said.
Under the partnership, the combat experience gained from operating robotic platforms in Ukraine will also be used to develop future ground systems for the armed forces of Western countries.
ARX Robotics supplies Ukraine’s Defense Forces with GEREON-family unmanned ground systems. In May, the company signed a contract to supply Ukraine with several hundred more of these systems, which is expected to increase the Defense Forces’ fleet fivefold. According to the company, its systems constitute the largest fleet of Western-made unmanned ground systems deployed in Ukraine.
The current agreement expands cooperation between ARX Robotics and Roboneers, which already includes the joint production of the Ukrainian Lynx Pro unmanned ground system. In June 2026, the companies announced the establishment of a joint venture, ARX Industries, as part of the Build with Ukraine initiative.
In July, soldiers from the 123rd Brigade deployed an unmanned ground system from a maritime unmanned platform onto the occupied Kinburn Spit. The operation is believed to have involved a Roboneers-produced Lynx unmanned ground system equipped with a PKT machine gun.
In September 2026, the company also codified the combat version, the ShaLynx PRO Mk.19 (M), which combines the Lynx PRO platform with the remotely controlled Shablya weapon station and a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.
Earlier, Roboneers also integrated the Shablya MK-19 combat module onto the Volya-E unmanned ground system, transforming the logistics platform into a remotely controlled fire-support system.
The companies’ cooperation comes amid a rapid increase in the number of unmanned ground systems in the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In April, the Ministry of Defense announced plans to contract 25,000 unmanned ground systems during the first half of 2026. In July, the ministry reported that it had contracted more than 22,000 Ukrainian-made unmanned ground systems for 2026.
