The 4th Separate Medical Battalion (SMDB) of the 3rd Army Corps became the first medical unit to start working in the combat zone.

The medical service reported this on its Instagram page.

The 4th Separate Medical Battalion is a unit formed on the basis of the experience of the medical service of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, and is now part of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

After the training and coordination stage, the battalion team is already performing key tasks.

“The team acts quickly, accurately, without pauses – even in the most difficult conditions,” the medical center wrote.

The 4th Medical Battalion provides evacuation, stabilization and assistance at Role 2 levels. It also maintains the health of the military:

  • conducts screenings,
  • vaccinations,
  • and treats chronic diseases.

Role 2 covers a set of capabilities that extend Role 1 and are aimed at preserving the life, limbs and functionality of the injured, stabilizing the patient’s condition for further evacuation.

The responsibility of the 4th Medical Battalion also includes treatment of somatic patients, logistics and supply, constant search for effective medical solutions and training to make medicine as close to the military as possible.

“The battalion’s team is constantly expanding its capabilities to operate even more efficiently and provide the highest level of care,” the battalion’s medical team said.

According to the plan, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will complete the main stages of the transition to a corps organizational structure by the end of 2025. The goal of this reform is to increase the effectiveness of troop management at the front, reduce bureaucracy and improve interaction between different units.

“For Ukraine, the corps is a response to the management challenges posed by the war in 2024,” said Andriy Biletskyi, commander of the 3rd Army Corps.

The 3rd Army Corps is based on the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. In total, the 3rd Army Corps will consist of five brigades, in addition to numerous auxiliary units.
