Iran Attacked a US Base in the Middle East with Ballistic Missiles

US missile defense systems intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles that were attacking a US base in the Middle East.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported this.

On the evening of July 28, at approximately 5:45 p.m. Eastern Time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched several ballistic missiles as part of a “surprise attack” on US forces in the region.

The US did not specify which military base Iran was attempting to target. However, according to some media outlets, such as ABC News, the likely target was a base in Jordan.

Local media there reported that in the morning, five missiles launched from Iran were shot down over Jordan.

The target was likely the same base that Iranian forces attacked on July 17, 2026. At that time, two US service members were killed while repelling an attack by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.

Another service member is currently listed as missing in action.

According to the command, US military personnel, together with partner forces, provided air defense and repelled a massive Iranian strike.

Four US service members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan.

As of July 16, 2026, the US had officially confirmed the deaths of 14 service members as part of Operation Epic Fury.

Of these, seven died as a result of combat operations; another seven died from non-combat causes, or their status remained under review at the time of publication.

The US Army suffered the heaviest losses, with eight service members killed.

The Air Force lost six service members, while the Navy, Marine Corps, and Space Force suffered no casualties.
