Terra Drone, a Japanese company, has started deploying its new Terra A2 interceptor drone in Ukraine. The drone was developed together with the Ukrainian company WinnyLab.

According to the company’s official website, the new system is intended to intercept Russian long-range attack drones, including Shahed-type UAVs.

Terra Drone said that Ukraine is the first country where the Terra A2 is being used in combat. Deploying the drones on the battlefield will help test the system in real war conditions, evaluate its effectiveness, and further improve the platform using combat experience.

The Terra A2 is a fixed-wing interceptor drone designed for long-endurance patrol missions and long-range target interception.

According to the company, the drone is capable of reaching speeds of up to 312 km/h, operating at ranges of up to 75 km, and remaining airborne for more than 40 minutes. The system has also been integrated with radar systems for target detection, tracking, and engagement.

Declared specifications of the Terra A2:

  • Maximum speed: 310 km/h
  • Flight endurance: 40 minutes
  • Maximum operational range: 75 km
  • Operational altitude: 5 km
  • Payload capacity: 750 g
  • Launch method: catapult launch

The company noted that the Terra A2 will become part of a layered air defense system together with the Terra A1 interceptor drone, which was deployed in Ukraine in spring 2026.

In late April 2026, Terra Drone announced plans to expand production of the Ukrainian-made Terra A1 and Terra A2 interceptor drones and invest in the development of jet-powered drones.

The drones are produced in Ukraine by Amazing Drones, which has already secured Japanese investment through an agreement with Terra Drone.

In addition to the Terra A2, the company is also actively developing the Terra A1 interceptor drone. Unlike the A2’s fixed-wing design, the A1 is built on a quadcopter platform with X-shaped stabilizing fins.

Declared specifications of the Terra A1 drone:

  • Maximum speed: 280 km/h
  • Flight endurance: 15 minutes
  • Maximum operational range: 18 km
  • Payload capacity: 500 g
  • Launch method: VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing)

Militarnyi previously reported that Terra Drone, which has invested in Ukrainian unmanned systems, won its first tender from Japan Ministry of Defense for drone deliveries worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
